When you make homemade Christmas ornaments, you want them to last. If you take the time and care to make a personalized ornament, it means more than your typical store-bought ornament. Once Christmas is over and you are packing up all of your decorations, you may be wondering how to best package up your fragile ornaments so that they last until you open them up next Christmas. Here are some tips to help keep them safe. For breakable ornaments, padding is the most important part of packing. It should be secure so that it does not move around. A box with sections is helpful to keep the ornaments separate and organized. Some companies sell compartment ornament boxes, but you can also create your own using strips of cardboard that fit perfectly inside another box. You can pad the box or wrap each ornament separately. As far as padding goes, newspaper or tissue paper works, but you will need more of it than if you use a thicker padding material. If you are lining the box, then foam padding is a great option. Make sure you place the ornament in the position it is the most stable. If it is a longer ornament, lay it on its side. If your DIY Christmas ornaments are mostly glass balls like this craft, then you will want to keep it upright so that the metal part stays at the top.
