It uses old Christmas cards that many of us have sitting around far after the rest of the Christmas decorations have been taken down. The first Christmas cards were sent in 19th century Britain, with the custom being started by Sir Henry Cole. Sir Henry Cole worked at what is now known as the Public Record Office. The first Christmas cards were illustrated by John Callcott Horsley and showed images of celebration and charity. Along with the images was the sentiment, "A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to You." These cards were sold by the thousands for a shilling each. Since then, Christmas cards have been a staple for sending good will to family and friends. They are so pretty that we like to put them up on display and, of course, make Christmas crafts with them afterward.
