I have never done the elf on the shelf with having no kids and I am pretty sure elf on the shelf doesnt work on dogs but I might give it a try this year with my four year old niece for when she comes to visit I think she will love it and I dont think they do it at home.

How crazy does the Elf on the Shelf get? I have seen some really funny pictures on Facebook. Several friends of mine have kids, and they like to use the elf to show the kids how to not be bad during the holidays. One showed the elf leaving a mess in the toilet. Another showed snowprints coming in from the back door. I think they are so adorable.

These are hilarious! We don't have the original elf on the shelf, but more of a knockoff elf, so we can't do as many fun poses, but still.
