This is a great idea for the kids to make! Although they're cool just the way they are shown here, you could make them out of pasteboard or even cardstock covered with, say, scraps of wrapping paper or leftover Contact paper to simplify things. I remember making something similar when I was a kid and it was a lot of fun.
